Oh, bother.

An open letter to a boy I'd very much like to date, but who, right now, is just plain pissing me off:

You're a "sad panda," are you? Seriously?

Well, you know what would help with that? Talking to someone. Someone who really cares about what you feel and think and desperately wants to be there for you and help you NOT be sad. You DO realize that moping around and being sad on Facebook achieves two things: 1) It makes you look pitiful and 2) It makes me feel EXACTLY LIKE YOU'RE FEELING... except with some anger and active frustration mixed in. The only person making you a sad panda is YOU, because I sure as hell want to make you happy. I certainly cannot force you to be interested in me, but damn. You should be. It would sure solve a lot of our mutual problems. So give me a break and quit being an idiot. If you're going to persist in not being interested, the least you could do is man up a little and TELL ME you're not so I can quit wasting my energy being smitten with you. I feel like can't do any more than I already have: I drove a lot of hours to see you for not much time and support your endeavors AND give you presents... and I have heard nary a word from you since then. I think you are simply delightful and, frankly, pretty much everything I have ever been looking for, so QUIT BEING RIDICULOUS and whining about how no one cares about you and get with the frakking program. If there is something I should be doing that would make a difference, I really wish I knew what it was. I live to serve.

New Beginnings

I love the butterflies and fun expectation of a new relationship as much as the next girl, but you know what I hate? The not knowing. I just want to know where it's headed right at the get go. I have said before that I hate the game, and it's honestly probably more because I just suck at it than that I truly don't like it, but I have rarely met a dude where I wasn't able to tell within about 10 minutes (or FAR less) if I wanted to either just shake hands and say, "Thanks for showing up, but please go away," or dive right in and be inseparable. The waiting is the worst part. I just want to skip to the mutual "I like you"s and get on with it.

Patience: do not has. But I'll carry on as best I can. Between both retail jobs, the church gig and the opera in full frickin' swing, obviously the best thing for me to do is try to add a new relationship (lolol). Although, life has been quite a bit brighter since Valentine's Day. It's funny how actually adding to this already insanely busy life has made it all seem lighter in general.

Television

I think I have some significant OCD tendencies. I wish they'd migrate over into my room cleaning habits, but mainly they stay in the part of brain that likes watching television.

I like T.V. I watch a LOT of T.V., actually. At any given time, there are between ten and fifteen shows that I'm watching weekly and trying to keep up with. Thank God for Hulu, right? I'm 2 episodes away from being finished with Mad Men, which is good, because my OCDness cannot be sated until it's done. Oh, Mad Men...

Some people are enamored with him.

Photobucket

I'm enamored with her.

Photobucket
(well, really more her, though this photo is better)
{or better still, this one. How frickin' gorgeous!!}

Anyway, I really want to start watching Friday Night Lights because it seems very much up my alley, but it's all on Netflix. I know that this seems like a boon (and eventually it will be), but right now, if I watch the pilot..... I'll be sucked in. I'll have to watch ALL OF THE EPISODES until I'm caught up. And thank goodness it's on Hulu or I'd never keep up, but oy. I need a break from my T.V. so I can get back to the important things in my life.

A Letter to Seester

Dear Seester,

I love you. You are my favorite sister, but seriously. I would really rather you not respond to my random inside joke text with a phone call telling me how you're out with all of the people I'd love to be out with but can't because I A) don't live in Wichita Falls anymore and B) don't have to extra fundage to go down there every weekend. I would also appreciate it if you would refrain from telling me the stories reinforcing how you're the dangerous, mysterious, and cool sister. I know you are. It's painful enough just being the boring, straight-laced, un-adventurous one, but you letting me know that the guy who has been my go-to crush on guy since fourth grade said that you're "super f*&^ing hot" was almost over the line of what I can reasonably handle. Even if it doesn't seem like it bothers me or matters, it does; on both counts. I'm not the cool one. I'm okay with it most of the time. I'd like it if you didn't rub it in...

*sigh*

Times they are a'changin'

I feel I have been a little remiss with my lack of posting. As I'm still in the process of doing a big ol' life overhaul, I don't want to jinx any part of it... so just know that there are big things afoot in my world and I will tell everyone about it as soon as everything settles down. In lieu of talking about MY life... I'll talk about a couple of other folks:

My loverly co-worker has some wonderful news!

Photobucket

Go on her blog to get the scoop!

I'm so excited for her!! She's going to be a great momma! :D

-·-

I'm SURE that if you're on the internet at all, you've heard of LiLu. Well, apparently , MTV wants her to be a Twitter Jockey!! I think the voting starts at the end of June, so get out there and be supportive!!

-·-

Ok, one more thing: I've been obsessively watching Buffy and Angel (to be a good Whedon fan, as I've never seen them) and this is good stuff! I'm watching Buffy S.4 and Angel S.1 concurrently because the storylines overlap and intertwine SUPER nicely! Gotta love a good Whedon show. Anywho, can't leave without putting a nice song up for everybody so here it is. Kind of a throwback, but awesome all the same.

YATTA!!!

yatta
This was me about 20 minutes ago

Y'ALL!! Ok, so I'm a bit of a big ol' nerd and I just have to tell everybody that I feel like a frickin' genius right now.

I have been trying to get SimTower to work for quite some time. It was sort of a cycle where I would remember how much I love to play old DOS games and I'd play the one or two that I have made work reliably (either with the CD I still have or that I downloaded) and I get on a mission to make SimTower work again. Like I said the other day, Dosbox has been the coolest thing to work with because it seriously is taking me back 15 years to when I was a kid in the 90s playing on my dad's computer. Everything from the way the directory structure and navigation handles to the sounds (oh! The sounds!!) is just totally perfect. But I could never make SimTower work because it would give me an error message that said it needed Windows to run. I use a MacBook Pro, and I wouldn't have had access to Windows installation disks... ever, much less have a way to run them now. My mom inadvertently gave me the idea to try to find the game FOR Mac, but because I have an Intel based Mac, it doesn't have the Classic OS already installed, so I would have to run Classic OS through an emulator, too. After barking up that tree for a while, it was back to the drawing board (read: I came home and took a 4 hour nap, which is really more of a baby-sleep than nap, anyway).

Well, ladies and gentlemen, after my nap, I resumed the quest and while reading forum after forum after thread after whatever, the knowledge was bestowed upon me that I can INSTALL Windows 3.1 (My 1990s original OS) and run it through my Dosbox.

this is incredible.

The best part is that I can sort of manipulate the file structure from OSX, since it's all housed in there anyway. What would have taken FOREVER in a copy, paste command cycle just takes a second. And I can back everything up... like the entire OS. Shoot, I FUBARed it up the first time I tried to install SVGA drivers and just delete the whole folder from OSX and started over. It's GREAT!! I figured out how to make the sound drivers work and everything. I installed and ran SimTower and it WORKS!! Suffice to say that tomorrow at work will be consumed by this game.

so. excited.

Sorry about all the technobabble. I hope at least some of you out there will be able to get what I'm talking about.

I'm not, however, sorry for the Heroes 'ence.

What? You don't know what "ence" means? I'll blog about that later. The rest of this was too important to wait until morning.

8 hours...

...is a REALLY long time to be in the car. But it is absolutely worth it.

Photobucket
That's Ashley, my Albuquerque roadtrip buddy. She was in the sun and it was too warm, so we put the sunshades over her.

Photobucket
I didn't want to turn around to take a picture of the rainbow, so I took a picture of it in the side mirror. Note the difference in the color of the sky in front of us versus the sky behind us. That was a rough patch we had just been through.

Photobucket
This was probably 1 or 2 hours from Albuquerque

I brought a bunch of my music and books so hopefully I make some headway on the papers and recitals and crap for next semester. Anywhozits, I'm gonna get out of this Hastings and go piddle around until Joel gets off work. Toodles!

p.s. I don't just mean worth it for the sunsets, mountains and rainbows.

Fireworks and Vacation time!

So I'm getting pretty excited for this lovely holiday weekend. As if you didn't know, I'm going to Albuquerque for a few days! And, as has been previously stated, vacations are wonderful.

Actually, this is the first of a couple of these trips this month, but this one is different for a couple of reasons. First, it was relatively unplanned. I have a co-worker whose boyfriend lives in Albuquerque (total coincidence) and so she goes out there about twice a month. She is cool as SHIT and we're going to have a total blast on the 8 hour car drive (and in her Scion, which gets MUCH better gas mileage than my Explorer). Second, this one will have FIREWORKS!!! (Well, I guess they'll both have fireworks, heh heh... ahem..)

Anyway...

Fireworks are so much the best thing and fun and wonderful and happiness and smushy and preeety.... *sigh*

I love fireworks.

Oh! I also love this song!! I heard it in the trailer for "Away We Go" and I can't stop listening to it:

A Perfect Life

(In the midst of a conversation about mountains, ocean and big skies)

Him: Why can't I have it all?
Me: Nobody can ever have it all.
Me: You can continually strive for "it all" but if you could really attain perfection... what after that? There will always be something else. This isn't a bad thing.
Him: Bullshit. A perfect life can be had.
Him: It is finding what you love, finding a way to get paid doing it, and doing it in a place and with/around people you love.

Oh.

Well, yes. That would be pretty close to perfect, huh?

Favorite: On Movies

So, among the cheapest and most worthwhile ways to use up a couple of hours with someone is watching a movie, right? That is a little harder to do when the person you want to watch a movie with is a time zone away. All I can say is that it can be done, though it's best when you both have the same cell phone provider (Thank God for the IN Network). Oh, and that Redbox is fantastic. Nothing like standing in front of your respective Redboxes (in different states) on your cell phones trying to decide what movie(s) to watch. Technology is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Finally got my motivation back

Ok, I need to unpack my apartment. I mean, geez. We moved in over Spring Break and I have yet to actually unpack the vast majority of my belongings. However, I have company coming this weekend, so it's time to unleash my inner domestic goddess (if I even have one... let's hope so) and organize and clean!

Actually, when I get in the right mood and listen to the music, cleaning and organizing all my garbage is actually kind of enjoyable. Yesterday was NOT this day. I was totally a lazy person all afternoon and then there was a tornado (no kidding. 'Nado.) and so I just wasn't in the mood to do anything but sit in my chair and veg. Today, though... the inspiration has struck! I have music! I have macaroni and chicken nuggets! I have the urge to clean!!

Yippee!!

In honor of said motivation, I'm going to share a few of my favorite cleaning musics. They may or may not be Guitar Hero songs:

Lay Down - Priestess

Holiday in Cambodia - Dead Kennedys

Sick, Sick, Sick - Queens of the Stoneage

"Where's my person?"

I saw this on a friend of mine's Facebook (the title of this post is his caption). I hope he won't mind me being in love with it and arting it up a little for blogging purposes. (he doesn't, I asked him.)

What a compliment!

My dear friend (and asian little sister) Carolyn gave me a fabulous compliment yesterday.

"You have the best music."

I love being able to put music up here because, I mean, yeah, there's the whole "opera singer" thing I have going on, but I just really like music. And I like for other people to like music. So, here's to you, lady. Another song I rock out to (in an Indie way) and hopefully I'll continue to provide worthy tunes.

Cinco de Mayo!

Can we talk about for a second how super pumped I am to be going to The Judge's place for an epic Firefly-a-thon and nachos etc. in honor of Cinco de Mayo?

It's going to be awesome.
